The 2015 Stories Behind the Stones Historic Cemetery Tour is almost here! The dates this year are Friday, September 25th and Saturday, September 26th – with a rain date of Sunday, September 27th. Prices for the tour remain the same $10 for adults and $5 for children K-8. This is a walking tour through Historic Fairview Cemetery in New Albany, IN. Tours start at 6:00 PM and leave every 15 minutes. Tours are approx. 1 1/2 hours long. All walking is done on roadways. Seats in golf carts are available for those that walking through the cemetery would be difficult.
This year's theme is "Disease, Disasters and the Downtrodden" We will have 5 scenes set up in the cemetery with costumed characters that will tell stories of how some of New Albany's early settlers survived the many epidemics and disasters. This is an educational and entertaining tour - not a scary tour through the cemetery.
Please call 812-391-0705 to purchase your tickets. Visa and MC accepted.
A message from Barbara Zoller, organizer of Stories Behind the Stones:
Since the 2014 Stories Behind the Stones Tour we have lost two really important supporters of Stories Behind the Stones and Fairview Cemetery.
Last December, my sister, Patty Hughes passed away unexpectedly. We miss her every day. She did so much work for Stories and the City of New Albany. Most of you knew her from ticket sales – she really enjoyed talking to each and every one of you. And she loved talking to repeat customers. She may have had very small feet – but she has left us with very large shoes to fill.
Just recently, Mary Clipp passed away. Mary was active in so many areas in New Albany – but she just loved Fairview Cemetery. She spent many hours raising funds, keying in information and talking about Fairview Cemetery to anyone that would listen. Her leadership over the past 20 or so years kept the Friends of Fairview moving in the right direction.
In honor of these two wonderful ladies, let’s make this a very special Stories Behind the Stones – order your tickets and calendars now!
Thank you all so much for all your kind words during the past year,
