It is essential for the people of New Albany and Floyd County to understand the true value of Floyd Memorial Hospital before its sale on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Rough estimates for the value of the hospital range from $150M to $450M.
This is only possible if hospital and county officials supply the public with any and all appraisals as required by state statute and any other business valuations. The City has requested that Floyd County officials reveal the other options and bids that they received and considered in private. In addition, any potential conflicts involving voting officials or others should be immediately disclosed to the public. These actions will ease fears and unrest regarding this unprecedented sale of a public asset in Floyd County.
County officials need to be open about the process that has led to their decision to choose Baptist Health over other proposals. Clarification after the vote is too late and it will not give us the confidence of due process we deserve. This citizen friendly action will help us to move forward without suspicion and worry. Further, full disclosure could reduce the probability of any future litigation or concerns regarding the sale of the hospital.
The Mayor's office and other elected city officials who represent approximately 38,000 Floyd County residents, and the residents themselves have been denied access to these vital public documents too. Rest assured we will continue to try to acquire these details that are rightly the property of every resident in Floyd County.
All of Floyd county residents can help by attending the meeting and contacting their county officials and encourage full disclosure before they vote.

Every year, tens of thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world unite to make noise that Swimming Lessons Save Lives.™ A global event, The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL), will take place over the course of 24 hours at an estimated 500 locations in more than 20 countries. Since its inception, more than 155,000 children and adults have participated in WLSL lessons generating more than half a billion media impressions about the vital importance of learning to swim.
Tragically, drowning remains the leading cause of unintended, injury related deaths for children ages 1-4, and the second leading cause of accidental death for children under 14. Research shows participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children aged 1 to 4, yet many kids do not receive formal swimming or water safety training. River Run Family Water Park will be serving as an official Host Location Facility for the WLSL 2016 event. Please join us to show swim lessons really do save lives!

The Riverfront Independence Day Celebration will be on Sunday, July 3 at the scenic Riverfront Amphitheater. The event begins at 6pm. This year's lineup includes the local favorite country music act Wildwood and the always entertaining Louisville Crashers. So grab a lawn chair or a blanket and come join us for a wonderful night of family-fun along the Ohio River.
In addition to the live music, the event will host tons of children's inflatables to bounce around on, the famous Bubble Machine, local food vendors, a beer garden area, an Independence Day Recognition Ceremony, and to top it all off - a beautiful fireworks display at dark. The event is proudly presented by the City of New Albany and the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County, and the fireworks display is sponsored by the Horseshoe Foundation and McBrides Fleet.
The New Albany Criterium, a 6 corner criterium bike race, returns to downtown New Albany on Sunday, June 19th! This event is sponsored by Clarksville Schwinn PB Whayne, and is a sanctioned event from USA Cycling.
Course Description: Course is a flat six-corner criterium course. Start/Finish is near the intersection of Pearl and Market st. Course is 0.7 miles in length and is run counter-clockwise.
Details: All 2016 USA Cycling rules apply. Free-lap rule is in effect. Lapped riders may be pulled at the Officials’ discretion. You must present a valid 2016 USA Cycling license at registration to enter any race. Only Category 5 men and Category 4 women who do not have a valid racing license may purchase a one-day license for $15.00 at registration. Promoters reserve the right to shorten, modify, cancel, or combine any race in the event of insufficient entries or bad weather. Day of race registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes 30 minutes before the start of each race. A late fee of $10.00 will apply to on-site registration. Helmets must be worn at all times. First race is regular fee, each additional race is $10.00.
