IMPROVING VISIBILITY: Road crews are mobilizing to apply new striping to areas along Grant Line Road and Charlestown Road!

Crews will be in the Grant Line Road area, from I-265 heading north to the city limits near Barack Obama Way, beginning today. Crews will be applying and touching up striping to help improve visibility and safety along the roadway.

Once finished applying the new striping on Grant Line Road, crews will shift over to Charlestown Road. New striping will be applied on Charlestown Road from Blackiston Mill Crossing towards I-265. Crews are expected to be in the Charlestown Road area early next week.

Please be aware and mindful of crews working in the roadway during this time.

WORKING TO KEEP YOU SAFE: The City of New Albany wants to express a huge thank you to our Street Department and Public Safety teams for working tirelessly during last week’s Ice Storm to clear roadways, assist residents, and perform essential public safety duties.

The Street Department applied over FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY (450) tons of salt to roadways to help clear wintery conditions. Public Safety teams had additional firefighters and Police Officers on standby to respond to emergencies. Friday’s trash and recycling collections was delayed due to the ice storm, but thanks to these teams working in conjunction together, collections were able to continue on Saturday.

ICE STORM UPDATE: Street Department crews continue to work on improving road conditions throughout the city. Accumulation has started to decrease, but many roads remain icy and difficult to travel. Please continue to use extreme caution while traveling, and be mindful of crews working in the roadways.

On Friday, essential city services will remain in full operation working to combat the effects of the ice storm. Public offices at City Hall will be closed. Friday trash and recycling collection routes are currently delayed until Saturday, weather permitting.

SEVERE WINTER STORM WARNING:

Beginning Thursday morning, freezing rain is expected to fall in Southern Indiana. Meteorologists are anticipating over a half-inch of ice and multiple inches of snow from this storm. This amount of ice can impact power lines causing outages, make roadways very difficult to travel on, and cause damage to trees.

The Street Department has multiple crews clearing roadways. However, with the icy conditions expected, roadways will be heavily impacted and difficult to travel on. The New Albany Police Department has additional officers patrolling and will be assisting anyone who needs temporary shelter, connecting them with services. The New Albany Fire Department is also calling in additional personnel to assist with emergency services. Duke Energy has multiple teams on standby to work through any power outages as quickly and safely as possible.

All essential city services will be in full operation during the storm, however public offices at City Hall will be closed. Please be safe and travel only when necessary during this storm. Please be cautious while using indoor space heaters and be aware of the fire hazards and risks associated with their use.
